Maple Creek, which is on the west side of the lake, flows westward, while the South Branch, which is on the east side of the lake, flows eastward. The Wanipigow Lake Archaeological Site, which is located North of the community of Manigotagan, contains a wealth of information about past Aboriginal lifeways, making it one of the most significant sites in Manitoba. More intensive use of the site occurred about 2, years ago by an Aboriginal people belonging to the Laurel culture. The Manigotagan is a challenging whitewater river just hours by road from the population centre of the province. The community of Manigotagan sits at the river’s mouth, on the shores of magnificent Lake Winnipeg.
